The 2027 Ford Ranger offers XL, XLT, Lariat and Raptor trims, with a new available 3.0L EcoBoost V6 on XLT and Lariat 4×4 models. Properly equipped non-Raptor Rangers can tow up to 7,500 pounds; Ranger Raptor is rated up to 5,510 pounds. This guide explains the 2027 changes, engine choices, towing equipment and practical differences that matter when choosing a midsize truck.

What’s new for the 2027 Ford Ranger?
The biggest powertrain change is the available 3.0L EcoBoost V6 replacing the previous 2.7L V6. The new engine is offered on XLT and Lariat with 4×4. Ranger Raptor continues with a separate High Output 3.0L V6; the two 3.0L choices have different outputs and towing ratings.
- More standard XL equipment: a 12-inch center touchscreen, dual-zone electronic climate control and 17-inch black-painted aluminum wheels.
- New appearance choices: Neptune Blue exterior paint and an available Bronze Appearance Package for XLT and Lariat. The bronze package includes 18-inch bronze-painted wheels, bronze grille accents and graphics. Color and equipment availability vary by trim.
- New Luxury Package: available on Lariat and Raptor, with items such as a 10-speaker B&O audio system, driver-seat memory, rain-sensing wipers and power-folding mirrors. A heated steering wheel is included for Lariat.
- Revised driver-assistance packages: Ford Co-Pilot360 2.0 is standard on XLT; Assist 2.0 is standard on Lariat. Assist 2.0 plus Towing Technology is available on XLT and Lariat and standard on Raptor.
- Interior and package updates: Space Gray joins the interior choices. The previous Chrome Accent and Sport Appearance packages are deleted.

2027 Ranger XL vs. XLT vs. Lariat vs. Raptor
Choose the trim for the equipment you want, then verify the engine, drivetrain and packages. The 2027 U.S. Ranger lineup uses the four-door SuperCrew body. A trim name alone does not tell you whether a truck has the Trailer Tow Package, an upgraded engine or a particular camera system.

Which engines are available in the 2027 Ford Ranger?
Ford lists a 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder, a new available 3.0L EcoBoost V6, and the Raptor’s 3.0L High Output V6. All use an electronic 10-speed automatic transmission.

Outputs above are listed in Ford’s October 28, 2026 Ranger product guide, version 1.3. The earlier October 15 order guide leaves output figures TBD and calls horsepower/torque figures preliminary. Confirm final specifications for the vehicle ordered. Raptor’s stated output is based on premium fuel per SAE J1349; results vary. Horsepower, torque, towing and payload are independent attributes and may not be achieved together.
Does the new 3.0L V6 make an XLT or Lariat a Raptor?
No. The available XLT/Lariat engine and the Raptor High Output engine have different listed outputs. Raptor also includes specialized suspension, locking differentials and off-road equipment. Engine displacement alone does not make the trucks equivalent.
How much can the 2027 Ford Ranger tow?
Ford’s public 2027 towing guide lists up to 7,500 pounds for properly equipped 2.3L and non-Raptor 3.0L Rangers, and up to 5,510 pounds for Ranger Raptor. The available Trailer Tow Package is required for trailers over 3,500 pounds. That package is standard on Raptor.

What does the Trailer Tow Package include?
The Trailer Tow Package adds a Class IV receiver and 4-pin/7-pin wiring. Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0 plus Towing Technology adds features such as Pro Trailer Backup Assist, Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and a 360-degree camera, along with the Trailer Tow Package. Check the actual build for the brake controller and other equipment your trailer requires.
Why does Ranger Raptor tow less despite having more horsepower?
A tow rating belongs to the entire vehicle configuration, not just its engine. Raptor’s specialized off-road chassis and equipment have their own ratings. Choose it for the off-road features you need, then check its 5,510-pound maximum against your loaded trailer and remaining payload.

Will a Ranger tow my camper or boat?
Bring the trailer’s loaded weight, measured tongue weight and trailer specifications. We will also need the number of passengers and the equipment you expect to carry. Check trailer frontal-area requirements as well as weight; a tall travel trailer and a low utility trailer place different demands on a truck.
Payload example: suppose the specific truck’s door label permits 1,500 pounds of occupants and cargo. If people weigh 500 pounds, cargo weighs 200 pounds, added hitch equipment weighs 50 pounds and the trailer places 600 pounds on the hitch, that uses 1,350 pounds, leaving 150 pounds. These are illustrative weights, not a rating for any Ranger. The truck and trailer must still satisfy every applicable limit.

Ranger FX4 vs. Ranger Raptor: what’s the difference?
FX4 is an available package on XL, XLT and Lariat 4×4 models; Raptor is a separate trim with more specialized off-road hardware. Both deserve a configuration-by-configuration comparison if you also plan to tow.

Off-road features have limits. Consult the Owner’s Manual, understand the terrain and use appropriate safety equipment. A drive mode is not a substitute for suitable tires, clearance or driver judgment.
2027 Ford Ranger vs. 2027 Chevrolet Colorado
Compare equivalent engines and equipment, not just the largest number advertised for either lineup. Colorado’s standard engine has a higher listed output than Ranger’s standard four-cylinder. Ranger offers three engine choices, including its Raptor High Output V6. Neither truck’s maximum tow rating applies to every trim.

Is the 2.7L V6 still offered for 2027?
No. Ford’s 2027 Ranger order guide deletes the 2.7L EcoBoost V6 and introduces a 3.0L EcoBoost V6 option for XLT and Lariat 4×4 models.
Is every 2027 Ranger four-wheel drive?
No. XL, XLT and Lariat offer 2.3L 4×2 configurations as well as 4×4. The available non-Raptor 3.0L V6 requires 4×4, and Raptor is a 4×4 model.
Does the 2027 Ranger XL have the larger touchscreen?
Yes. The order guide lists a 12-inch center display as standard on XL for 2027, along with dual-zone electronic climate control.
Can I get the Bronze Appearance Package on an XL?
The 2027 order guide lists the Bronze Appearance Package for XLT and Lariat. It is not listed as an XL package.
Is the B&O audio system standard on every Lariat?
For 2027, the order guide lists the 10-speaker B&O system in the available Luxury Package on Lariat and Raptor. Check the individual vehicle’s equipment rather than assuming prior-year package content carries over.
What fuel economy does the 2027 Ranger get?
The October 15, 2026 order guide lists 2027 fuel-economy figures as TBD. We are not substituting 2026 ratings. Check the EPA label on the specific 2027 vehicle when available.
Is there a hybrid or diesel in this U.S. 2027 Ranger lineup?
The supplied U.S. order guide lists gasoline EcoBoost engines only: 2.3L, 3.0L and Raptor’s 3.0L High Output. Specifications for Rangers sold in other countries do not establish U.S. availability.
