The 2027 Ford F-150 offers XL, STX, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Tremor and Raptor models, with engines ranging from the new 3.0L EcoBoost V6 to the PowerBoost full hybrid and Raptor R’s supercharged V8. Maximum available towing is 13,500 pounds with a specific 3.5L EcoBoost configuration. This guide explains trim and engine differences, towing requirements, Pro Power Onboard and BlueCruise with Towing so you can choose a truck around the way you use it.

Choosing an F-150 in Huntsville or North Alabama? Bring your trailer’s loaded weight, the number of people you carry and a list of the equipment you want. Our team can help compare configurations, inspect a truck’s window sticker and check current inventory or ordering availability.
What’s new for the 2027 Ford F-150?
The new 3.0L EcoBoost V6 replaces the previous 2.7L engine. Other changes include additional V8 availability, new entry equipment groups for Tremor and Raptor, an available XLT Carhartt Package, and BlueCruise with Towing on eligible equipped trucks.
- Engine choices: the 3.0L EcoBoost joins XL, STX, XLT and Lariat configurations. The 5.0L V8 is available on specified King Ranch and Platinum equipment groups; Platinum Plus 703A uses PowerBoost.
- Tremor and Raptor: new 400A Tremor and 800A Raptor groups give shoppers additional equipment combinations within those off-road lines.
- Appearance: revised grilles and wheels on several trims, plus new Birch Sand, Neptune Blue and Wild Green paint choices. Color availability and extra charges vary by model.
- Packages: XLT 303A and the former STX 201A FX4 equipment group are deleted. Available FX4 equipment on STX 200A is listed with late availability.

Which 2027 F-150 trim, cab and bed should you choose?
Start with your cab, bed and capability requirements, then compare trim equipment. A higher trim does not automatically tow more. Options add weight, and some appearance or off-road packages change which towing equipment is available.
On a phone, swipe tables sideways to see every column.
| Model | Why compare it? | Equipment to verify |
|---|---|---|
| XL | Work-focused configurations and the widest range of cab choices. | Cab, bed, engine and towing equipment. XL PowerBoost availability is fleet-only. |
| STX | Distinctive appearance, with available hybrid or Lobo configurations. | 200A versus 200B equipment; the STX 5.0L V8 requires Lobo. Check FX4 availability separately. |
| XLT | A broad selection of comfort, appearance and technology packages. | 300A, 301A or 302A equipment. Carhartt requires a specific 302A SuperCrew 4×4 configuration. |
| Lariat | More comfort and technology choices with several engine options. | 500A, 501A or 502A content. The 500A group is not available with the SuperCrew 6.5-foot bed for 2027. |
| King Ranch | A distinctive premium interior and multiple powertrain choices. | 600A versus 601A, plus engine and towing packages. |
| Platinum | Premium equipment with several levels of luxury and technology. | 700A through 703A content. Platinum Plus 703A uses PowerBoost; other groups have different choices. |
| Tremor | Dedicated off-road hardware with several comfort-equipment levels. | 400A, 401A, 402B or 402A, engine choice and optional front differential equipment. |
| Raptor / Raptor R | Specialized off-road suspension and high-output powertrains. | 800A/801A with 35-inch tires, 802A with 37-inch tires, or 803A Raptor R with the supercharged V8. |
Cab and bed basics: Regular Cab is an XL choice with a 6.5- or 8-foot bed. SuperCab offers a 6.5-foot bed on XL, STX and XLT. SuperCrew with a 5.5-foot bed spans the lineup; the 6.5-foot SuperCrew bed is offered on selected XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum configurations. Engine, drivetrain and equipment-group restrictions still apply.
2027 F-150 engine comparison: EcoBoost, V8 and PowerBoost
The engine badge tells only part of the story. For towing, compare the axle ratio, cab, bed, drivetrain and required towing packages along with the engine. For everyday use, consider your passenger space, cargo and available onboard power.
| Engine | Horsepower / torque | Where it fits |
|---|---|---|
| 3.0L EcoBoost V6 | 325 hp / 400 lb-ft | New for 2027 on selected XL, STX, XLT and Lariat configurations. |
| 3.5L EcoBoost V6 | 400 hp / 500 lb-ft | Available across multiple trims; the engine used for the 13,500-pound maximum towing configuration. |
| 3.5L PowerBoost full-hybrid V6 | 430 hp / 570 lb-ft | SuperCrew configurations; combines gas and electric power with standard 2.4-kW Pro Power Onboard. XL is fleet-only. |
| 5.0L V8 | 400 hp / 410 lb-ft | Available on selected XL, STX Lobo, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Tremor and Platinum configurations. |
| High Output 3.5L EcoBoost V6 | 450 hp / 510 lb-ft | Raptor; distinct from the regular 3.5L EcoBoost. |
| Supercharged 5.2L V8 | 720 hp / 640 lb-ft | Raptor R, equipment group 803A. |
Ford-published output ratings for properly equipped vehicles; fuel and configuration requirements apply. All use a 10-speed transmission, with a hybrid-specific transmission for PowerBoost. Maximum engine output, towing and payload are not necessarily achieved on the same vehicle.
How does F-150 PowerBoost work, and do you plug it in?
PowerBoost is a full hybrid, not a plug-in hybrid. It combines a 3.5L EcoBoost gasoline engine with an electric motor and a hybrid 10-speed transmission. You refuel it with gasoline; you do not connect it to a charging station. The combined Ford-published output is 430 horsepower and 570 lb-ft of torque.
PowerBoost includes 2.4-kW Pro Power Onboard, with a 7.2-kW system available. The available 7.2-kW system includes a 240-volt outlet. Compare the continuous demand and startup load of the equipment you want to run against the truck’s actual outlet and system ratings. The total system rating is not the capacity of every individual outlet.
A hybrid can be useful for buyers who want onboard power at a worksite or campsite, but it does not automatically have the highest towing or payload rating. Check the specific truck’s labels. For fuel-economy comparisons, use the actual 2027 vehicle’s EPA window-sticker figures rather than carrying over a prior model year’s MPG.
How much can the 2027 Ford F-150 tow?
The maximum available 2027 F-150 towing rating is 13,500 pounds. Ford’s towing table assigns that rating to a 3.5L EcoBoost SuperCrew with a 6.5-foot bed, 4×4, a 3.55 axle ratio, 19,400-pound gross combined weight rating (GCWR), Tow/Haul Package and Max Tow Axle. It is not the rating of every 3.5L truck or every F-150.
| Engine and configuration | Axle / GCWR | Maximum loaded trailer weight |
|---|---|---|
| 3.0L EcoBoost • Regular Cab • 8-foot bed • 4×2 | 3.73 / 13,300 lb | 8,400 lb |
| 3.5L EcoBoost • SuperCrew • 6.5-foot bed • 4×4 • Tow/Haul + Max Tow Axle | 3.55 / 19,400 lb | 13,500 lb |
| PowerBoost • SuperCrew • 5.5-foot bed • 4×2 • Tow/Haul + Max Tow Axle | 3.55 / 18,400 lb | 12,100 lb |
| PowerBoost • SuperCrew • 5.5-foot bed • 4×4 • Tow/Haul + Max Tow Axle | 3.73 / 18,400 lb | 11,600 lb |
Selected entries from Ford’s 2027 RV & Trailer Towing Guide, F-150 tables on pages 16–17. These are configuration-specific maximums with required equipment. Ford’s ratings account for a 150-pound driver and 150-pound passenger; additional people, options and cargo can reduce available capacity. Review all applicable ratings and the owner’s manual before towing.
Why do different PowerBoost towing numbers appear? Drivetrain, bed length and equipment change the rating. The dedicated 2027 towing table lists 12,100 pounds for the selected 4×2 configuration above and 11,600 pounds for the selected 4×4. A broad engine summary is not a substitute for the exact configuration table.
Check the equipment before selecting a trailer. Tow/Haul Package 53T and Max Tow Axle are required for the high-capacity configurations shown. Tow/Haul is not available with the 3.0L engine or Lobo Package. Ford also specifies a weight-distributing hitch system for conventional towing above 5,000 pounds; follow the individual truck’s receiver label and owner’s manual.
Check towing by VIN
Use Ford’s public towing calculator to look up a supported F-Series VIN, then review the truck’s labels, installed equipment and loaded trailer requirements. If a VIN is not yet recognized, our team can help review the applicable Ford configuration table.
Why can payload limit towing before you reach the tow rating?
Trailer tongue weight uses the truck’s available payload. So do people, cargo and added equipment. The tire-and-loading label on the individual truck is more useful than a lineup-wide maximum payload claim.
Illustrative example: a truck’s label allows 1,800 pounds of occupants and cargo. Subtract 600 pounds for people, 200 pounds for cargo and 100 pounds for hitch equipment, leaving 900 pounds for trailer tongue weight and any other added load. An 8,000-pound loaded trailer at an illustrative 10% tongue weight would use 800 pounds of that allowance, leaving only 100 pounds.
This example is not a towing approval or a recommended tongue-weight target for every trailer. Use the trailer manufacturer’s requirements and actual loaded weights. The truck must also remain within its GVWR, front and rear axle ratings, GCWR, receiver and tire limits. Bring loaded weights rather than relying only on a trailer’s advertised dry weight.
Can the 2027 F-150 use BlueCruise while towing?
Yes, on eligible equipped trucks with an active BlueCruise plan or trial and a qualifying conventional trailer. BlueCruise with Towing is available on selected XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and Tremor configurations. It operates on eligible divided highways in Blue Zones and requires an attentive driver watching the road.
- Trailer weight: the system supports qualifying trailers up to 5,000 pounds, or up to 10,000 pounds with the required Tow/Haul and Max Tow Axle equipment, subject to the truck’s lower applicable limits.
- Trailer dimensions and setup: Ford specifies a maximum trailer length of 33 feet and width of 8.5 feet. A configured trailer profile is required; the default trailer profile does not enable this feature.
- Lane changes: automatic lane changes and In-Lane Repositioning are unavailable while towing. The driver handles lane changes manually.
A 13,500-pound truck tow rating does not mean BlueCruise can tow 13,500 pounds. The assistance system has its own trailer restrictions. Check feature availability, activation, operating conditions and the owner’s manual for the individual truck.
FX4, Tremor, Raptor, Lobo and Carhartt: what is the difference?
These packages and models serve different priorities. Choose the driving use first, then check towing and comfort equipment on the exact configuration.
- FX4: an available off-road package for eligible 4×4 configurations, with equipment such as skid plates, off-road-tuned shocks and an electronic-locking rear axle. It is not an add-on package for Tremor or Raptor.
- Tremor: a dedicated off-road model. The new 400A group includes 33-inch tires, Tremor-specific shocks and a 3.73 electronic-locking rear axle. The 3.5L EcoBoost is standard and the 5.0L V8 is available. Compare higher groups for additional comfort and technology; do not assume all groups include the same front differential.
- Raptor: specialized off-road suspension with FOX Live Valve shocks and the High Output 3.5L EcoBoost. The new 800A group uses 35-inch tires. Compare 802A for 37-inch tires or 803A Raptor R for the supercharged 5.2L V8.
- Lobo: a street-focused STX 200A SuperCrew 4×4 package with a 5.5-foot bed, 5.0L V8, 22-inch wheels and a lowered rear suspension. Tow/Haul and FX4 are not available with Lobo.
- Carhartt: an appearance and interior package for XLT 302A SuperCrew 4×4 with the 5.5-foot bed. It brings Carhartt branding, distinctive trim, 20-inch wheels and other package-specific details. Ford lists 3.5L EcoBoost, PowerBoost and 5.0L configurations, with availability beginning early 2027. It is not offered with the 3.0L engine.
2027 Ford F-150 frequently asked questions
Does the 2027 F-150 still offer a V8?
Yes. The 5.0L V8 is available on selected XL, STX Lobo, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Tremor and Platinum configurations. Raptor R uses a separate supercharged 5.2L V8. Confirm the equipment group; Platinum Plus 703A uses PowerBoost.
Is the new 3.0L EcoBoost the same as Raptor’s engine?
No. The new F-150 3.0L EcoBoost is rated at 325 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. F-150 Raptor uses a High Output 3.5L EcoBoost, while Raptor R has a supercharged 5.2L V8. Engine names from other Ford models should not be used as F-150 specifications.
Is PowerBoost always the best F-150 for towing?
It depends on your load and truck configuration. PowerBoost offers strong torque and onboard power, but the lineup’s 13,500-pound maximum belongs to a specific non-hybrid 3.5L EcoBoost. Compare the exact tow rating, payload label and your trailer’s loaded tongue weight.
Is a hitch receiver enough for maximum towing?
No. A receiver does not establish the truck’s maximum rating or confirm that Tow/Haul, Max Tow Axle or an integrated brake controller is installed. Verify the window sticker, axle and vehicle ratings, hitch equipment and trailer-brake requirements.
