2026 Ford Maverick Engine Options

Engine of a Ford Maverick truck

2.5L Hybrid (standard)

The hybrid pairs a 2.5L four-cylinder engine with an electric motor, for 184 combined horsepower. It drives through a power-split electric CVT. It’s standard on the XL, XLT and Lariat. Front-wheel drive is standard on the XL and XLT, all-wheel drive is available, and AWD is standard on the Lariat.

The hybrid is the Maverick to get if you mostly drive around town. The electric motor does much of the work at low speeds, which is why its city rating is higher than its highway rating.

2.0L EcoBoost (available)

The turbocharged 2.0L EcoBoost four-cylinder makes 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. It uses an 8-speed automatic, except on the Lobo, which gets a 7-speed automatic with paddle shifters. It’s the only engine on the Lobo and Tremor, which add Advanced 4WD.

For 2026, Ford brought back the EcoBoost with front-wheel drive on the XL and XLT. It costs $1,000 less than the hybrid with front-wheel drive. The EcoBoost with AWD is a no-cost upgrade over the hybrid with front-wheel drive.

Which engine should you choose?

  • Choose the hybrid if most of your driving is in town and fuel cost matters most. It also comes with AWD and can tow 4,000 lbs with the 4K Tow Package.
  • Choose the EcoBoost if you want quicker acceleration, the lowest starting price (FWD), or the Lobo’s street styling and the Tremor’s off-road hardware.

Engines by Trim

Every Maverick trim except the Lobo and Tremor starts with the hybrid. The EcoBoost is optional on those three and standard on the two performance trims.

Lobo 2.0L EcoBoost, Advanced 4WD None
Tremor 2.0L EcoBoost, Advanced 4WD None
