2027 Ford Expedition vs. 2026: What Changed?
The biggest 2027 Ford Expedition changes are a new Family Travel Package for Active Touring, a 30th Anniversary Appearance Package for Platinum, expanded 4×2 availability, and revised towing and convenience equipment. For Huntsville shoppers comparing a 2026 and 2027 Expedition, the right choice comes down to the features on the specific vehicle—not just its model year or trim badge.
This guide highlights the changes in Ford’s October 8, 2026 order guide. Familiar Expedition features such as the Ford Split Gate and the Tremor model already appeared in the 2026 lineup.

2027 Expedition changes at a glance
| Change for 2027 | Where it applies | Why it matters |

| New 30th Anniversary Appearance Package | Optional on Platinum, equipment group 600A | Adds anniversary details and offers exclusive access to Blue Ember Metallic. |
| Expanded 4×2 choices | Platinum Elite, Platinum with Stealth Appearance, and King Ranch | Gives shoppers more choices when comparing rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. |
| Revised towing equipment | Active Touring and certain Platinum configurations | Trailer Tow Prep and Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow are different equipment packages. |
| Wireless charging availability | Driver’s Package on Tremor and Platinum; standard on King Ranch | Check package content if wireless phone charging is a priority. |

What is the 2027 Expedition Family Travel Package?
The new Family Travel Package is optional on Active Touring (202A). It is not listed as an option for Active Select (200A). Its features include:
- A power panoramic Vista Roof with a power shade.
- The Flex Powered Console and a digital device holder, with 60-watt USB ports in the front seatbacks.
- A 40/20/40 PowerFold third row with flexible seating and remotely operated power-folding head restraints.
- 360-Degree Zone Lighting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and remote start.
For a family comparing school-day use and longer trips, this package is worth checking before moving to another trim solely for convenience features. It also makes “Active” too broad a label for a meaningful comparison: look for Touring 202A and package 90T on the vehicle’s equipment information.
The second-row bench is a separate seating option. Do not assume that adding the Family Travel Package automatically gives you your preferred passenger capacity or second-row layout.
What does the 30th Anniversary Appearance Package add?
The 2027 Expedition Platinum offers the 30th Anniversary Appearance Package (91A). It includes anniversary badging, 22-inch wheels, dark exterior details, distinctive scuff plates and an embossed center console. The package requires the Salt Crystal Gray interior and is not available through Military Personnel Sales.
The October order guide lists three exterior choices for this package: Agate Black Metallic, Star White Metallic Tri-Coat and Blue Ember Metallic. Blue Ember requires the anniversary package; it is not a color option across the entire Expedition lineup.
Package combinations matter here. The order guide does not allow the anniversary package with Stealth Appearance, Stealth Performance or Platinum Ultimate. Treat those as separate paths when deciding which Platinum equipment you want.
More 4×2 choices, but towing equipment still needs a close look
For 2027, Ford expands 4×2 availability to Platinum Elite, Platinum with the Stealth Appearance Package, and King Ranch. Stealth Performance and Platinum Ultimate remain 4×4-only configurations in the order guide.
Ford also revises the towing equipment on certain models:
- Trailer Tow Prep is standard on Active Touring and 4×2 Platinum.
- Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow (61E) is optional on eligible 4×4 Active Touring and Platinum configurations.
- Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow is included with the 4×4 Stealth Performance and Platinum Ultimate packages.
The Heavy-Duty package includes an integrated trailer brake controller, upgraded radiator equipment and a two-speed four-wheel-drive system. A listing that says “tow package” is a starting point; confirm the actual package and the vehicle’s ratings before choosing a trailer.
When comparing vehicles for towing, account for the loaded trailer, passengers, cargo and trailer tongue weight. Ask our team to help check the specific Expedition’s equipment and Ford towing information for your intended use.
Colors and convenience features to check on the window sticker
The new colors are Bronze Fire Metallic Tinted Clearcoat, Nocturnal Blue Metallic and Blue Ember Metallic. Space Silver Metallic and Stone Blue Metallic are removed for 2027. Availability varies, and the anniversary package has the three-color selection described above.
Wireless charging is included with the Driver’s Package on Tremor and Platinum and is standard on King Ranch. The SecuriCode keypad also changes availability: it is optional on Active Touring, base Platinum and Stealth Appearance, while it is standard on King Ranch and certain higher-content Platinum packages.
Active Touring (202A) retail orders include a 90-day BlueCruise trial for 2027; Military Personnel Sales are excluded. This is not an across-the-board benefit for every Active model or order type. BlueCruise requires an eligible vehicle and an active plan or trial, works on designated roads, and requires the driver to remain attentive.
2027 Expedition questions shoppers ask
Is the 2027 Expedition Tremor new?
Tremor was already part of the 2026 Expedition lineup. The 2027 changes should be evaluated by equipment and package, rather than treating the Tremor name as a new introduction.
Can I get a 2027 Expedition MAX with any trim?
The retail lineup offers Expedition MAX with Active, Platinum and King Ranch. The order guide does not list a Tremor MAX. Compare cargo room with your usual seats occupied, and check the exact vehicle’s towing rating separately.
Should I choose a 2026 or 2027 Expedition?
Start with your must-have features. A shopper who wants the new Family Travel Package, the anniversary appearance or an expanded 4×2 configuration has a specific reason to consider 2027. If those changes are not priorities, compare available 2026 and 2027 vehicles by equipment, condition, price and availability.
