2027 Ford Maverick vs. 2026: What Changed?

October 31st, 2026 by

The biggest 2027 Ford Maverick changes are a revised engine lineup, new appearance and luxury packages, and different equipment requirements. XL and Lariat are hybrid-only in Ford’s August 17, 2026 order guide. XLT still offers hybrid or EcoBoost power, with the FX4 Off-Road Package included on the EcoBoost AWD configuration. Lobo and Tremor retain EcoBoost power and Advanced 4WD.

At Woody Anderson Ford in Huntsville, Alabama, this guide helps you compare those changes with the 2026 Maverick and identify the equipment that matters for your next truck.

What changed from the 2026 to the 2027 Ford Maverick?

  • XL and Lariat become hybrid-only: their EcoBoost AWD configurations are deleted. EcoBoost front-wheel drive is also removed from XL and XLT. Lariat gains a hybrid front-wheel-drive configuration.
  • XLT EcoBoost AWD includes FX4: the FX4 Off-Road Package is included with XLT equipment group 302A and no longer requires the XLT Luxury Package.
  • The 4K Tow Package has a simpler ordering requirement: Ford lists it without the previous Ford Co-Pilot360 package requirement, on eligible AWD configurations.
  • New package choices: a Bronze Appearance Package joins the lineup for XLT Hybrid AWD and Lariat Hybrid AWD. A new optional Lariat Luxury Package groups several comfort and convenience features.
  • Three new colors: Neptune Blue, Gladwin Green and Glacier Gray Metallic Tri-Coat are added. Azure Gray, Carbonized Gray, Marsh Gray and Space White are deleted.
  • Equipment worth checking: the spray-in bedliner becomes a standalone option on Lobo, Lariat and Tremor. Tire inflator and sealant kits replace some standard spare-tire equipment. SecuriCode keyless entry keypad availability and a Ford Security Package are also listed as new.

For the previous model year’s engine details, see our 2026 Ford Maverick engine guide. The 2027 equipment changes below should be checked separately from 2026 performance ratings and offers.

Which engines and drivetrains are available on the 2027 Maverick?

The 2027 Maverick offers a 2.5L hybrid with a power-split electric CVT or a 2.0L EcoBoost with an automatic transmission. Availability depends on the trim and equipment group.

2027 Maverick configurations listed in Ford’s August 17, 2026 order guide
Trim Engine and drive choices Equipment groups
XL 2.5L Hybrid with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive 100A FWD; 101A AWD
XLT 2.5L Hybrid FWD or AWD; 2.0L EcoBoost AWD with an 8-speed automatic and FX4 300A Hybrid FWD; 301A Hybrid AWD; 302A EcoBoost AWD
Lariat 2.5L Hybrid with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive 500A FWD; 501A AWD
Lobo 2.0L EcoBoost with a 7-speed Quick Shift transmission and Advanced 4WD 402A Standard; 702A High
Tremor 2.0L EcoBoost with an 8-speed automatic and Advanced 4WD 602A

Shopping takeaway: if you want a 2027 EcoBoost, start with XLT 302A, Lobo or Tremor. If you want a 2027 Lariat, your engine choice is hybrid; your next decision is front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

Can the 2027 Maverick Hybrid get the 4K Tow Package?

Yes. The guide lists the 4K Tow Package for Hybrid AWD versions of XL, XLT and Lariat. It is also optional on XLT EcoBoost AWD. The eligible equipment groups are XL 101A, XLT 301A/302A and Lariat 501A. It is not listed for the front-wheel-drive configurations, Lobo or Tremor.

The package includes a trailer brake controller, a Class III hitch with a 2-inch receiver and 4-pin/7-pin connectors, an upgraded cooling fan and a conventional 17-inch spare tire. A transmission oil cooler is included for the hybrid configuration. Ford’s change summary says the package no longer requires Ford Co-Pilot360.

A package name or an AWD badge alone does not establish the towing limit of an individual truck. Before choosing a Maverick for a trailer, confirm the truck’s equipment and applicable Ford towing ratings, including passenger and cargo loads. Ford’s public VIN towing calculator currently supports F-Series trucks only, so it does not provide a Maverick result. Check Ford’s towing guides for the correct model year and ask our team to verify the ratings for your selected Maverick.

What is new about FX4, Bronze Appearance and Lariat Luxury?

XLT EcoBoost AWD and FX4

For 2027, XLT 302A includes FX4. The listed equipment includes all-terrain tires, front tow hooks, skid plates, Hill Descent Control, an off-road screen, a performance suspension and upgraded cooling components. The XLT Luxury Package remains a separate option. Ford also deletes the previous unique 18-inch FX4 wheel.

Bronze Appearance Package

The new Bronze Appearance Package is optional on XLT Hybrid AWD (301A) and Lariat Hybrid AWD (501A). It adds 19-inch Sinister Bronze-painted wheels, bronze graphics and exterior accents, a black-painted roof, grille and mirrors, plus black interior accents. XLT receives unique black cloth seats; Lariat receives unique black ActiveX-trimmed seats. It cannot be combined with the Black Appearance Package.

Lariat Luxury Package

The new optional Lariat Luxury Package is available on both Lariat configurations. It includes an eight-speaker B&O sound system, LED box lighting, a power-sliding rear window, a 400-watt Pro Power Onboard inverter with cab and bed outlets, and wireless charging.

Shopping takeaway: compare the actual equipment list when moving between model years. A trim name by itself does not tell you whether a particular truck has the audio system, bedliner, power outlet or rear window you want.

What colors and everyday features should buyers check?

The three new colors are Neptune Blue, Gladwin Green and Glacier Gray Metallic Tri-Coat. Ford lists them as extra-charge paints, and availability varies by trim and appearance package. Ask our team to verify your preferred color and package combination.

XL, XLT, Lariat and Lobo list a tire inflator and sealant kit as standard equipment, with conventional spare-tire availability depending on configuration or package. Tremor lists a conventional spare as standard, and the spare is included with XLT 302A’s FX4 equipment and the available 4K Tow Package. Check the specific build if carrying a spare matters to you.

The guide also lists an optional SecuriCode keyless entry keypad and a Ford Security Package with theft alerts, Start Inhibit and Stolen Vehicle Services. One year of the security package is included from the new-vehicle warranty start date, with modem activation required. A separate longer-term purchase option is listed; confirm its terms before selecting it.

What are the 2027 Maverick’s horsepower, MPG and payload ratings?

The August 17, 2026 order guide marks horsepower, torque, fuel economy, maximum payload and GVWR figures as TBD. This article therefore does not present 2026 numbers as confirmed 2027 ratings. Ask for the latest published specifications, the vehicle’s fuel-economy label and its load-information labels when comparing a specific truck.

2027 Ford Maverick shopping questions

Is every 2027 Maverick a hybrid?

No. XL and Lariat are hybrid-only in this guide. XLT offers hybrid or EcoBoost configurations, while Lobo and Tremor use the 2.0L EcoBoost.

Can I get a 2027 Maverick Hybrid with AWD?

Yes. Hybrid AWD is listed on XL 101A, XLT 301A and Lariat 501A. Hybrid front-wheel-drive versions are also listed for all three trims.

Can I combine the Bronze Appearance Package with FX4?

Not in this order guide. The Bronze Appearance Package is listed for XLT Hybrid AWD 301A and Lariat Hybrid AWD 501A. FX4 is included with XLT EcoBoost AWD 302A.

Does a 2027 Lariat include a spray-in bedliner?

The Tough Bed spray-in bedliner is listed as a standalone option on Lariat, Lobo and Tremor. Confirm it appears on the selected truck’s equipment list or order if you want it included.

Should I buy a 2026 Maverick or choose a 2027?

Start with the combination you need. An EcoBoost XL or Lariat shopper should compare available 2026 vehicles because those configurations are deleted for 2027. A shopper interested in a hybrid FWD Lariat or the new Bronze Appearance Package has a reason to explore 2027. Then compare actual vehicle prices, equipment, availability and applicable offers.
